My prints are predominantly made in black and white; etchings, relief prints and monoprints. I love the expressive power of black ink on white paper and the subtle gradation of tone and mood that is possible between these two extremes. My work tends to fall into two subject areas; figuration and landscape. These allow me to explore representational subjects as well as the more abstract textural and expressive qualities of landscape. My print practice focuses on developing methods that retain a sense of immediacy and foreground the inherent qualities of theprocess. Recently I have returned to monoprint, which is the most direct print method. Applying ink directly to the plate with a rollerprovides an analogue for the texture and forms of the landscape and weather of Yorkshire. https://www.andrew-dalton.com
